THE OTHER SIDE

wall hangings

In the The Other Side I use analog collage, acrylic paint and decoupage to create scenes from every day life featuring bone people from vintage Antikamnia  advertisements and other sources. The vintage bone people illustrations were originally created by Dr. Louis Crusius in the late 1800s to early 1900s. The Antikamnia Chemical Company was founded by two former drugstore owners in St. Louis in the late 1880s. The purpose of which was to sell a medicine designed to combat pain and fever (the name comes from Greek words meaning “opposed to pain”.

I felt compelled to extricate them from paper. I began creating a variety of collaged scenes through the layering of frames and images of different objects and placing the bone people inside moments of everyday living and life. The Other Side is an ongoing exploration into echoes. The echoes that are left behind by those we have loved and lost and the echoes of our living selves that we have left or frozen in the past. Each piece contains between 15 to 50 individual hand cut images.
